It’s been a super-busy past few months for us… As we are growing by leaps and bounds, we are working hard to put structures in place to keep things rolling. One of the most exciting changes is that, after long last, on the first day of 2019, you’ll find a whole new IntegratedSchools.org! With a thousand thanks to our pro-bono web developer, Bradon, the new site will be much less clunky, easier to navigate, and significantly prettier. Hats off to Bradon, the Taproot organization, and to our Parent Board members who’ve looked through the test site for all their help!
*Please note, for those of you who follow us as WordPress followers, you might see that the subscription will take time to carry over. To avoid missing any posts, we recommend that you mosey on over to IntegratedSchools.org and follow us by email.
** And also, many of you are not Facebookers or are leaving FB. We know that, we get it. We are looking for alternatives (or rather, additional options) for FBesque conversations and will be playing with an IntegratedSchools.org forum soon. If anyone out there has any ideas, please let us know!
UPCOMING LOCAL MEET UPS: Parents in Arlington, Seattle, and Chicago: You’re invited to upcoming meetings in your community!
As we close out 2018, we are so thrilled that our podcasts have reached such a large audience; in just two months, we have had over 10,200 downloads! While we have little social media savvy here (ummm, if anyone out there wants to help, let us know!), this traction has almost entirely been thanks to people like you sharing with friends. And so, we thank you! This also means that there IS an appetite for these conversations. We have learned a lot in our scrappy, figure-it-out-as-we-go process and will continue to improve, but we are encouraged every day that we are not alone in caring about and grappling with these issues. We are planning an exciting new season of podcasts which we expect to launch mid-January… so stay tuned! Let us know if there is a topic you’d like to cover, and please, shoot a voice memo to hello@integratedschools.org and we’ll get your voice on an episode!
Our new Book Club selection Mothers of Massive Resistance: White Women and the Politics of White Supremacy (Elizabeth Gillespie McRae) will be posting in the next week or so. In the meantime, everyone who cares about school integration should read this history…
And finally, we are so deeply humbled and grateful to all of you who have so generously supported the work of Integrated Schools. This all-parent, all-volunteer undertaking is only possible through our combined efforts. Your financial contributions are deeply appreciated… and your kind words and engagement (particularly the great conversations that parents have been having on the Facebook group) keep us going…
May 2019 bring us all peace, strength, and children who love to put away laundry.
Courtney, Congratulations on your efforts to inform and influence school Integration. I participated in the last book club discussion and have been listening to most of the podcasts. I particularly appreciated Vicky and the Saviors. It was a great message to remember to respect and value all people. I’m a retired public school teacher and administrator and a grandmother of 6, two are biracial. So I’m not a parent but I believe in your mission. I’ve purchased the next book and will try to participate in the discussion even if only through a comment. I’ll be looking for more information about the date and conversation for Mothers of Massive Resistance. Happy New Year Eileen Sanchez Sent from my iPhone
